Album advertisement

To design the artwork for the advertisement I used similar images from the digipak artwork, and included information that is generically found in a advertisement. 

 In my first attempt, I tried to keep it simple, but include some aspects from the digipak, so they look related. When researching into digipaks I found this to be a common thing, especially that the logo's that the digipaks use tend to a recurring thing. This was my first draft

I then decided that this may be a bit too simple, and tried a busier effect, shown below. However, after looking at my digipak, and the examples of advertisements that I found, I've decided to use my original poster, I think it is a bolder more effective advertisement, and fits the reoccurring imagery I'm creating.

In the process of making this and the digipak, I have manly been scanning in hand drawn images, and piecing them together like a collage, but using photoshop. I did this because I wanted it to have a organic sketchy look about it, much like the video does. The style in which I've chosen is fairly true to the genre of music I've chosen, for example, the Elliott Smith digipak shown.

I wasn't sure I was too keen on my other digipak artwork, so I tried a new attempt of it, still combining the same images, this was my second and third attempt.

I then decided on this as my final front cover after deciding the others were too busy, so this is my final front and back cover of my digipak.

I think this will be more aesthetically pleasing artwork and work more successfully than the others I came up with.

I then decided on this as the inside cover, it's inspired by a certain section in the animation that I thought would be nice to use in there as a reference to the video. From the research that I did into digipaks I found that the inside cover tends to be a lot simpler than the rest, so in this I tried to create something simple, but still good to look at. By adhering to the conventions I found in my research, I think this means it will be seen as a more successful, and professional looking digipak. 

Research into magazine advertisements

To start researching into where my digipak advert would be shown, I purchased a couple of magazines that I thought would show one, and found that NME, a well known music magazi

ne, didn't really feature adverts for digipaks, so I've begun researching into different places the digipaks may be advertising, magazines that aren't completely music based.

In order to create an advert for the James Yuill digipak, I have been researching into what sort of magazine advertise for albums, and which genre magazine will fit with my genre music. To begin this, I first of all searched online to see wether he had any presence with newspaper websites and found that he was on the guardian website advertised as 'new band of the day'

This indicates that it's possible I would be aiming to advertise in the guardians insert 'the guide' which I bought to see whether my advert would fit with the rest of the advertised albums. I found the advertisements to be fairly mixed genre, and therefore my advertisement would be perfect in this magazine. This will be a good magazine to advertise in as it's fairly popular and has a large audience.

I also looked into magazines that are solely for music, such as NME, another magazine that I think would work well with this genre, as NME tends to focus on the alternative genre and has featured information on James Yuill in the past, so the target audience will already be familiar with this magazine as an output for James Yuill.

The advertisement conventions or dimensions for this magazine tends to be a mix of a4, half that at a5, and occasionally 4 a6 on a page. Whole pages can be taken up with the adverts, but also they can be distributed within the articles and reviews. I researched through NME and found the exact dimensions for the advertisement, including the border left and also found prices for the different advertisements.
